A friend and I went there the other day and it was the most incredible food we've both had in a long time and both of us travel a lot! The Coquilles St. Jacques and Les Escargots de Bourgogne was amazing as well as the scallops dish I got as the main dish. the Souffle is also something you don't want to pass on!
The owner prides himself on the authenticity and ambiance, producing great French cuisine as you feel yourself slipping back to a cafe in Paris, but much more friendly.Find a cozy corner, read a book as you enjoy an afternoon getaway.A bit of Heaven with a French accent!Mais oui! Fantastque!
What I great place. Sad to find out its their last day at this location. I guess they are relocating soon. Best wishes to Joc and Kitty.
Horrible experience. Had reservation and were ignored for 45 minutes. Several (more than 5) staff members walked past us and (literally) refused to acknowledge us. Avoid!
I ate there in the spring of 1978 and can still recall their extraordinary Sunday midday meal. When next in CA, I will make a point to dine there again.
We've been coming here for years. It never fails to please. Outstanding menu and service
Amazing brunch and so affordable. Champagne...you must go. The decor is so French.
Love love love this restaurant! The food was fantastic and the service was exceptional. Even the hostess who greeted me at the door was cordial and helpful. I almost forgot to mention all the lovely wines they have!!!!! It was a tough choice to make I mean you can't go wrong with any of the them. In the end we were all blissfully happy! :)

Very tasty resto
excellent traditional french food in a comfortable setting.
Atmosphere is traditional style and very comfortable. We had excellent dinners - one duck and the other shrimp and both were excellent. The food was skillfully cooked and artfully presented, and includes soup, garden salad and fresh bread with butter. Staff was very warm and friendly. All at a very reasonable price.
Very slow service
Dinner was a disaster. Bottles of wine were overpriced. Ordered a bottle and it was brought to table OPEN, with wine dripped all over the label. Totally shady. Only 2 tables with customers on a Saturday night! Decor was outdated, place was being remodeled, very cluttered and old. The wine glasses were dirty. The salad was terrible, bagged lettuce soggy with dressing. The crab & scallop appetizer (Coquilles St Tacques) was nice, but the fake crab meat was a disappointment. The main courses were delicious (ostrich, sea scallops), beautifully prepared with vegetables perfectly cooked, soft, tender potatoes. Definitely the highlight of the night! Trying to pay, their credit card machine didn't work. Tried a debit card and credit card both unsuccessful, so the owner wrote the numbers down onto a napkin and we left. He added a 25% tip without asking. It was a terrible evening.
I really want to like this place, but it is just a bit too old school for my taste. The food is classically French and generally executed to an above average standard, but it lacks creativity. The decor is decidedly traditional, but feels old and staid. The overall ambiance is baroque and trapped in a different era. The good news is that it is never crowded for dinner and always fairly quiet. A great place to go if you are more interested in the conversation than the food.
Unique French restaurant. Everytime I have dined at LA Rive Gauche it has been fabulous!
One of the best. Great food, great menu, good prices and very comfortable and cozy place. I love it.
